“Recent random mechanical checks of vehicles within the Sydney metropolitan area indicate that correct inspection procedures are not being followed by some AIS when inspecting LPG fuel systems. These inspection standards are detailed in Rule 108 of the Rules for Authorised Inspection Stations.
The random checks have detected leaks in the fuel line connections in a range of makes and models of vehicles. Leaks from these systems pose a serious safety threat to the occupants of the vehicle, and if ignited, those in the vicinity of the vehicle. AIS are therefore reminded of their responsibility to thoroughly check any vehicle fitted with an LPG system to ensure that the system has no leaks. You should use an approved gas detecting device or foaming agent solution when conducting an inspection on an LPG system.
Only authorised LPG examiners must inspect the LPG system on a vehicle.”
